Health & Beauty Standards - Soil Association & Organic Certification

The Soil Association has a set of Health & Beauty Care Standards which have been based on those set for organic foods.

We use ingredients which are certified as organic wherever possible and we use the Soil Association guide lines in formulating our products, although we wish to be clear that we are not certified ourselves, primarily due to the cost.

The Soil Association Health and Beauty Standards stipulate that a product must have over 95% of the total ingredients included in the organic calculations obtained from agricultural sources and they must be of certified organic origin in order to be labelled as 'organic'. The rest of the ingredients must be acceptable under the Soil Association standards and must be approved. Examples of products which we hope will fall under this category of certification will be our Rose Face Oil, Lemon Nail & Cuticle Conditioner, Lip Balms, Toners and Clay Masks.

The next category in the Health & Beauty Standards includes cosmetics made with between 70% and 95% of certified organically grown ingredients. Subject to official certification, we consider most of Aromatika's creams will fall into this category because some of the ingredients necessary to make these products cannot yet be sourced organically. Plant based emulsifying wax which is one such ingredient.

Some products cannot meet the minimum requirement of 70% certified organic ingredients and this is because their ingredients are not yet available organically. Our facial scrubs fall into this category as the exfoliant materials are not available as organic.

The Soil Association organic percentage calculations exclude water unless they are floral waters which constitute more than 90% of the product, such as in Toners, however Aromatika prefers to use spring water in our creams and products, rather than purified or distilled water which is inert and lifeless.
